He Says He'll Take Me Sailing

He Says He'll Take Me Sailing

Deep eyes of mountainous green
Peer at a girl who loves the water
She who revels in a splash and the cry of a gull
Yet has not known the stern nor rocking of hull

He says he'll take me sailing
A natural boatman he says he be
After which I say I'll take him beneath the surface
into mysterious sea

To drift and sway
Breathing salt air on a gorgeous day
I pleasantly agree to such a scheme
And promise to show where watery wonders teem
Wind dancing alike in skirt and sail
I will imagine serpents following in the foam with sparkling tail
After our journey I will then take off my dress
And plunge with a splash of sapphires and emeralds to feel a different caress
My love of the ocean and a sailors friendship entwined
What a day it will be, one to be pined

And at the end of the week
Upon the hour both do seek

Welcomed aboard,
mermaid in hand
The day of the sea goes on
as delightfully planned

@tnderhrt23 - Oh thank you, it was written with a smile on my heart as I thought of such a day. I'm a huge fan of mermaids, so I'll definitely have more with them in future. Thank you as always for reading! :D The picture is sweet, thank you.

@The Suburban Poet - Yes I agree, so much better. Such a fantasy lives toying in the wind and on the water as it sparkles with sun... Thank you for stopping by!

I agree with Sub poet: great imagery. Makes me want to go swimming with a beautiful mermaid. They exist, right? Well, at least they do in this fine poem. Well done again, young poetess. I shall return. Cheers.

@Moon Willow Lake - Your picture fits your name :P Thank you for coming by and reading and then leaving me with the kindness of your comment, thank you very much. Any mermaid movie I'd be pretty stoked to see. :)

@Doug Turner Jr. - Yes, I was taking reality and putting a magical spin on it. I leave a lot for the reader to choose. A boy invited me sailing as he knew my love of water, yet I'd never sailed before and I told him after I would take him and show him secrets beneath the water (I'm an avid free diver). It was a fun idea of a sailor and a mermaid sharing their worlds, different, yet one in the same. Thank you for reading, I was in a fun mood. It all came so easily, as a child on the fairy I would absolutely always look down into the rich green of watery depth and imagine a sea serpent in the racing shapes the water made as the ship slashed and splashed through it. Thank you, I look forward to your visits. :)

@Tlmntim9 - Yes, :D It sounds perfect to me hehe. Like you and your spider poem, I was in a little fun mood. Thanks for stopping by!

....well you took me sailing my fellow Canadian across my Lake of Erie - and I'm not back yet .............

.....and I'm still trying to get this salt water out of my taste - this precious writing of yours is so vivid, atmospheric, evocative - and looking at this seaweed at my feet - realistic!!!!!!!

Delightful imagery and such a positive message. I saw your poem title in the similar theme list after I posted my poem about mermaids and such. Enjoyed your writing I will follow you and be back to read more. Robert
